GENRE SPECIFIC Courses

What Are They?

Our genre-specific courses are for DJs who want to dive deep into mixing techniques for their favourite genre. For example, if you’re a hip hop DJ, you may not be interested in learning any mixing techniques specifically for house music and vice versa. We have designed these courses to apply the methods using almost every DJ setup or controller. The courses have multiple lessons across different software; however, the focus is really on the music!

We’ve made it easy for you to follow along step-by-step thanks to our exclusive partnerships with streaming platforms Beatsource Link and Beatport Link. You will get three months of free access so you can follow along with the same music used in each lesson.

Our Genre Specific Courses

Hip Hop Mixing DJ Course

This Hip Hop Mixing DJ Course is designed specifically for those DJs who want to mix Hip Hop, Trap, Drill, LoFi or any other relevant sub-genre. We will teach you the core skills every DJ needs to master and have you mixing in no time. We are starting right at the beginning with essential music theory and beat-matching techniques, right up to more advanced creative features and transitions. The course is designed so anybody using any DJ software/hardware can join and follow easily.

All students who enrol on the course get three months free of Beatsource Link DJ streaming service. This means you can follow along step by step with everything taught in each lesson. We have created personalised DJ playlists available within the course to make your learning journey as easy and smooth as possible. By the end of the course, you will be confidently mixing your favourite artists, such as Drake, Kendrick Lamar, Lil Baby, Cardi B and more!

Please note, we have house music and drum & bass DJ courses coming this year too.

Course FAQs

What Equipment Will I Need?

To make the most of these courses, you will need to own a DJ setup or DJ controller to follow along with the course. You can also apply the lessons to your music library if you already have songs in mind that you want to mix, or you can take advantage of our three-month free trial for Beatsource LINK to follow along with each video using the same music. You will also need an internet connection to watch the video’s unless you download our iOS app to take advantage of offline mode!

What DJ apps or software do you use in the course?

These courses are mostly filmed using Serato and Rekordbox DJ controllers such as the DDJ-400 or Hercules Inpulse 500. However, we have designed the lessons to apply to any DJ setup or controller. If you use another software such as Traktor, Virtual DJ or DJAY pro, you can still take these courses. If you get stuck during the course, you can reach out directly to us or get help from the comments section within each lesson.

Do I Need To Buy A Software Specific Course Aswell?

Our Hip Hop Mixing DJ Course has some crossover with the software specific beginner and intermediate courses. However, if you also want to deep dive into all the performance features, effects, and software settings of your hardware/software, you can take the relevant software-specific course as well. The courses on this page focus on the music, not the equipment. They have been designed so you can make the most of your favourite music and perform confidently and creatively with your chosen genre.

What Music Should I Use?

We provide access to our exclusive Crossfader Music Pack, DJ Samples Pack, DJ tools for learning to beat match and an exclusive three-month free trial of either Beatport Link or Beatsource Link.

You can easily follow along step by step with our courses, using the same music. We provide links to playlists we have curated to make your learning journey as easy as possible.

Who's the tutor?

Our dedicated DJ tutors, James Holland, Lawrence James & Jamie Hartley, have over 40 years of combined DJ experience from working as both resident and guest DJs while playing at some of the biggest clubs and festivals around the UK.

Each tutor has a broad knowledge of technology, mixing and the industry, ready to help you start your journey as a DJ!

What Support Will I Receive?

After you enrol in a course, you will instantly access all the videos and lessons to watch as many times as you like. Each lesson has a dedicated comments area to ask tutors any questions you may have. You can also get in touch with tutors via email if you’re having problems, and we’re there to support you every step of the way. You will also have the option to join our Facebook Group and Discord community of students for extra support, advice and guidance.

How Do I View My Course?

Purchased courses are instantly accessible via our student portal learning area. You can access your course and lessons 24/7 and watch each video as many times as you like. If you have an iPhone, we also have an iOS app to access our learning portal on the go! Everything in the app syncs up with the web so that you can work seamlessly between the two.

You can also take your lessons on the move by downloading them for offline viewing inside the app. Just like Netflix!

Which Languages Are The Courses Filmed In?

Our courses are all filmed in English. Unfortunately, we don’t have subtitles available in other languages. Multi-language support is something we will be adding in the future so check back for updates.
